What to Wear if On-Location or in the Studio
TIP # 1: "If you would not want it in your photos, then do not wear it in your photos".
No logos, nothing revealing, nothing tight fitting, no 'busy' patterns such as stripes or chevron, no formal wear (unless specified)
Ladies: You may wear the following - Dresses (solid colors, lace, denim, cotton, floral prints, prom/pageant), Skirts, Skorts, Dress Pants, Tunics, Leggings, Dark or Light Wash Jeans (when appropriate) and appropriate Shoes (Flats, Heels, Boots, Sandals, etc).
Gentlemen: You may wear the following - Khakis, Dark or Light Wash Jeans, Shorts, Dress Pants and appropriate Shoes.
Most importantly remember this golden rule: ** Think "DRESS FOR SUCCESS"
TIP # 2: I always say coordinate with like colors. Never show up being too 'matchy matchy'. DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.
I LOVE to see layers, textures, patterns (non-busy please), solid colors, fabrics, accessories, etc -- Do not be afraid to mix it up!
A simple pea coat with a pop of color can brighten up any photo! Scarves, earrings, jewelry, & hair accessories are welcome.
Ladies - please show up with your hair ready (you may style it how you see fit) and no going too heavy on make up - you are beautiful without it!
TIP # 3: Always bring additional clothing options for the whole family with you to your session as this can change up the feel of the photos. Be sure to not only dress comfortably but be sure you wear comfortable shoes or in the very least bring an extra pair.
TIP # 4: If small children and/or newborns will be involved in the session, please bring the following: 1) The child's favorite toy, 2) Snacks or money for snacks for your child, 3) Water to keep you and your child hydrated (especially during warmer weather), 4) An umbrella, raincoat, and rain boots (if applicable - Alabama weather can be unpredictable sometimes), 5) Diaper bag with extra clothes, shoes, diapers, bottle(s), breast milk/formula, sippy cup, baby wipes, hand sanitizer, pacifier, burp cloths, extra onsies, teething ring, baby blanket, heating pad, a small portable noise machine (if applicable - a phone that plays music would be fine, this is to keep your baby soothed and comforted) and any additional items that your child and/or baby may need.
Newborn Tips
TIP # 1: To get those adorable sleepy and squishy baby photos, it is BEST to bring your baby between 4-10 days old. By this point, your little bundle of joy is fairly used to a feeding schedule and will be less likely to be fussy.
TIP # 2: Always arrive early, approximately 30 minutes to an hour, to allow for feeding your baby.
Mom's you are of course welcome to stop and feed in the studio at any point during your session - I have a bathroom located on the premises (it has its own personalized heating) for you to change your baby/child as well as feed your baby/child should you want some privacy. My studio is also equipped with its own heating and central air conditioning during the appropriate times throughout the year. I also have a rocking chair in which you may sit in to help rock your baby should he/she become fussy.
If I am to be photographing your baby in the comforts of your own home, this is what will be needed:
TIP # 3: Be sure to have your bundle of joy undressed down to their diaper when arriving for your session and always have your baby's diaper bag ready -- equipped with extra diapers with the for mentioned items above. *Parents - same tips apply if I am coming to your home to do a session. Also, I encourage you to include your favorite sonogram photo in your baby's session, along with any cute outfits or special keepsakes that you wish to incorporate into your baby's session.
TIP # 4: If sibling portraits are desired (excluding twin babies or multiples), please have someone bring the older child near the end of the session, as this tends to be distracting to a baby as well as the photographer. It is important to capture all of those beautiful newborn moments distraction free.
TIP # 5: Last but not least, mom's and/or dad's, all you need to do is sit back in relax and enjoy yourselves -- by having a seat in an air conditioned studio, the comfort of your own home or shaded area (if shooting on location) and allow me to capture your most precious blessings!
Feel free to inform me of any questions and/or concerns that you may have!

If I am to be photographing your baby in the comforts of your own home, this is what will be needed:
- I need to arrive at their sleepiest time – so keep an eye on their “new” schedule and we will figure out the best time to come (must be within great lighting times too)
- We will be shooting in the room with the most available natural light so make sure the room is clear and clean
- Have that room warmed up with a space heater and/or turn your air up so that the room temperature is nice and warm
- I will bring a heating pad, space heater and white noise machine/phone to play music should you not have one
- Please have some music picked out and turned on in the room (I like white noise and music for as much ambient noise as possible so that nothing disturbs baby)
- Try to feed baby (if schedule allows) 30 minutes or so prior to my arrival
- Baby should be only in a diaper when I arrive, that way we do not have to disrupt him/her by undressing them
- Have all items that you are interested in using in the shoot out and ready for me to sort through: baskets, blankets, hats, headbands, etc.
- Make sure nursery is nice and tidy, should we do photos of baby in there
- If you would like to be in images with your baby, make sure to look nice and wear colors that compliment your setting. I suggest beautiful light colors for a soft and gentle look.
- I don’t always have an assistant available so I may need help. It would be great if Dad is around – I don’t want Mom to be working too hard.
- Be prepared for explosions of all kinds. Poop, pee and spit up may go flying or spraying on anything around. Let’s have burp cloths, wipes and clean up stuff out and ready!
- Get ready to LOVE your baby even more, watching them sleep is such a beautiful thing. However, don’t be surprised if it takes them a good while to get into “baby model mode.” Newborns are NOT used to be handled this much, so do not be surprised if it takes a while longer than planned to be able to get your baby posed and comfortable
